The Brotherhood has its genesis in the aftermath of the great wars that racked the planet that are believed to have started as far back as 2094. The world was in a state of crisis, the global stock market crashed in the worst financial catastrophe the world had ever known. Companies and countries alike went bankrupt overnight after decades of previous financial turmoil and instability. With oil resources stretched so thin, the collapsing economies of world powers became desperate. Mass blackouts, violent protests, armed rioting and looting, religious pandemonium, a police force overwhelmed and completely helpless to stop it all, and almost complete society breakdown ensued midst the chaos. Even soldiers in the reserves of countries turned their guns on their superiors and civilians alike forming their own gangs of heavily armed raiders when it became apparent money and order as a concept was worthless. Companies were created in this era specifically intended to prepare for the absolute worst, Armageddon or doomsday as it were. Bomb shelters and secured resource stashes were constructed in countries around the world that were locked and conflict and the few that weren’t. By 2103 what became known as 'World War Three' broke out across the globe, touching every continent and almost every nation nearly with the fighting. The raging and brutal global conflict reached every continent. Billions of innocent lives were slaughtered in the savage fighting. Unfortunately, the use of biological and nuclear warfare did come into play in the conflicts and the result absolutely devastated the world. The fallout silenced the fighting under a blanket of nuclear fire, more than fifty nations and billions of lives lost, reduced to radioactive wasteland. Volcanoes erupted and the shockwaves caused mountains to crumble and entire continental shelves like the North American western shelf slid right into the ocean, taking countless lives with it. The tidal wave resulting from this cataclysmic event wiping out the pacific islands in tsunamis more than a mile high. Nuclear power plants melted down not even a year later creating even worse nuclear catastrophes across the globe. The nuclear winter killed almost anyone left alive outside of shelter above. More than four fifths of the world's population was completely wiped out when in the aftermath a new horror was realized. In the fighting, an organization attempted to subdue a country by unleashing a genetic virus that rendered females infertile, but was actually slowly killing them off. What they didn't know was the virus became airborne and soon more than half the globe was covered. By the year 2143 there were no more females to be found on the planet from what became known as KGXA Genophage Virus. The virus was originally designed as biological warfare to reduce a nation they were at war with unable to make future generations of fighting men with infertile women that would be rendered unable to give birth to a living child. Instead it turned into a horrifying weapon of mass genocide.A new horror came to realization that the hubris of man in his greed, selfishness, corruption, and thirst for violence nearly caused the destruction of the entire world as they knew it. Nearly eradicating all intelligent life from the entire planet. For many today the wasteland offers only new horrors from the creatures that stalk the shadows and move hunting men with the radioactive storms. Only above all they were facing total extinction of all reptilian and mammalian life on the planet. To answer this grievous tragedy and to save men from extinction the biggest names in pharmaceutical companies threw production costs into the wind and collected all the resources and manpower they needed combining companies, facilities, assets, and resources to make an organization called 'Gene Nexus' (GN for short) that's goal was to create artificial means of reproduction and adapting men to survive in this new and harsh world more horrific than anything they could have imagined. What would have cost trillions of dollars went without checks or bills in the face of extinction. Gene Nexus succeeded with its artificial incubation systems for growing adults artificially. However, it only could manage to reproduce male subjects, female subjects all died shortly after introduction to the outside atmosphere. Later testing proved the virus made the atmosphere in the world toxic to females attacking them on the neural level. The scientists tried everything they knew to adapt female subjects to resist the virus and even worked on ways to cure its effects on the body, but all efforts proved fruitless in the end with results too gruesome to put to words. It proved far too unethical and gruesome with its toll mentally on the scientists to bear pursuing what was slaughtering the subjects in what increasingly became viewed as a vain attempt to reclaim part of the past.With no way to neutralize the virus females eventually were all but forgotten about in the coming years... a fact some survivors still resent, claiming Gene Nexus didn't do enough or failed on purpose to suit a hidden and greedy agenda (though numerous investigations were launched by almost every Brotherhood only proving Gene Nexus's statement they tried everything they possibly could and was met with failure each and every time. Many among their science team having had wives themselves killed by either the war or the virus. They even invited others to view the tapes that most couldn’t sit through before becoming physically ill themselves to how gruesome the results were. Some do not even consider how far some of the scientists had to press their morals to continue research that ended sometimes in the horrifying results that made keeping a full staff in the endeavors very difficult as most of the original team could not bear the research anymore and threatened to quit (the main reason many could not bear watching something die in front of them over and over again or some of the horrible mutations witnessed).Though devastated and many areas of the world uninhabitable the world picked up the pieces. Over three fourths of the population was wiped out from the gene virus and the fighting. Mankind had lost its will to fight when they nearly lost everything to petty differences. Companies began to rise to power who picked up the roles of governing bodies over the masses. Country borders meant nothing for the longest time until what were called 'Brotherhoods' emerged to the global scale. Each continent was its own Brotherhood, its own nation unified by a common interest, which was to live better in peace working as a unified global coalition. Men set aside everything after looking destruction in the face and worked together to make something of their lives in this new howling age of desperation and uncertainty. The key to their success being the artificial incubation systems they developed and the construction of the world's first Nano Forge, a machine capable of mass-producing billions of self-replicating microscopic machines in mere minutes. This opened up a new era unlike any-other. Entire cities that had been laid to waste were reduced to massive mining sites Nano Forges extracted resources from with everything from fuel to glass, silicon, platinum, copper, magnesium, iron, steel, and other resources collected on a mass scale.
